this graphic novel ma boo gave me for xmas. not only was it beautifully illustrated, it was deeply touching and well written. the story revolves around a family, the daughter in particular, who is struggling with mental illness, and how it manifests itself through generations. not for those seeking a happy ending, but very moving. check it out, it made a great winter read...

joanna newsom with rob, and i was so impressed and inspired. she is incredibly talented, and im not even a huge fan of hers. her musicality was so impressive. this is a video of the song she opened with that night, but taken of her appearance on jimmy kimmels lame show. on a side note, even more impressive than she was...robin pecknold of fleet foxes killed it in the most amazing way. his voice took center stage, and he played a guitar and sang for 40 minutes and i was truly transfixed. anyhoo...here's that joanna song...

this film was shot by a couple of kids. they came into the store, asking to interview some of us, and it was all part of what "hipster" means. the end product is pretty funny. brendan in particular comes off looking very cool and "hip", but he also looks like jarvis cocker. and dude with stache is hot! anyhow...the kids filming this were really hip too. i believe that children are the future....

but my store pulled though and got some amazing talent to come and support us on record store day. super exciting, and hopefully the first of many big events at Everyday Music. First up to do a dj set for us is Steve Turner of Mudhoney. he comes in daily and buys a ton of awesome 7" records from us. always a gentleman...

next up doing a dj set is Zia McCabe from the Dandy Warhols. she was the first, along with one of my closest friends, Allan, to come through for me. i met her awhile back through my good friend Kevin, and she has always been so sweet. she has also been super enthused about this, and her energy has been intoxicating!

Ah Holly Fam'ly play music so sincerely. an employee of mine, Gina, turned me onto them, and i fell quick! they are the only ones doing an instore performance that day, and im super excited to see it!

Allan Wilson is a man im proud to consider one of my closest friends. he has been in chk chk chk since its inception, and he is one crazy awesome tambourine player. its so fun to see him play live. he is putting on a set that was, hands down, the employee's favorite set of last year.

Brandon of Helio Sequence comes into the store a few times a week. He has come in since i first started at the store 9 years ago. he is such a great guy, and has a very well behaved child, which in retail world is a huge blessing in any customer!!! i asked him if he was into playing, and even though he could not, hooked us up with his bandmate Benjamin and Danny from Menomena to do a split dj set between the 2, to celebrate the record store day split 7" thats coming out from their bands!!! should be awesome...

it should all be fun, and one of the guys working at the store is also djing, and he is hella awesome. im super excited not just for the stuff going on in the store, but the wicked awesome shit coming out that day.

saw this on 60 minutes today. the video speaks for itself, and the whole ten minute segment left me teary eyed and speechless at how the human mind works. hope it blows you away too!

this next band is the next big thing. Nick had shown me there video months ago, but it was just yolindi and the rap guy talking, and his shorts were so huge his undie bulge was showing every few seconds. I assumed that was the reason why Nick was showing me this. I saw it next on my friends blog, and fell back in love.

just released her newest cd, and much like her debut, this one has been slowly and slowly becoming a must listen on my morning commute. this song is my fave on the album, but its better in its recorded version, for the sole reason of the horns playing during the chorus when she is singing the title of the song. mariachi horns make all the difference, but this is still charming version...
